Ever since the upgrade to kernel 6.11 my headphones (DT 900 Pro X) when using HiFi 2.0 have extremely soft audio, requiring the use of HiFi 7.1 to get the same audio level as HiFi 2.0 had on kernel 6.10. However, HiFi 7.1 is a mess in games, with audio direction being horribly messed up or even muted in some cases. Is this a wider issue and if not, what can I do to fix this?
For additional information, reverting back to kernel 6.10 fixes the audio being muted and results in my headphones being properly usable
right it has now gotten bad enough where even downgrading no longer fixes it. 7.1 is required to get any sort of proper volume, but as mentioned, these are headphones, which dont even support 7.1
Might be unreleated, but perhaps something to try:
Arch Wiki > PipeWire > 5.1.6 Low volume
Open
alsamixer
, useF6
to select the proper soundcard, and make sure the ALSA volumes are at 100%.alsactl
should maintain this setting after reboot.
unfortunately that was not it, however I am currently testing something that should not work but somehow does. setting the volume to max on 7.1, clicking the test buttons and then switching back to 2.0, before setting the volume back to normal seems to do something to fix it
that seems to have done it. how? don’t ask, I have no clue how ANY of that fixed the issue, but I’ll wait until tomorrow before I celebrate, as it is just as likely to break itself again in the mean time
just to note down the thing that ended up being the fix for this issue
step 1, switch the profile to 7.1 and turn the volume up to full
step 2, perform an audio test on front left and right (not entirely certain that this is necessary, but I am not taking any chances)
step 3, switch the audio profile back to 2.0, it should now be possible to adjust the volume and have the expected sound level again
