External SSD problem: "device lacks SMART capability"

Hi there,

I would be very grateful for any help.

I have an external SSD drive, a SanDisk Extreme Pro 500 GB.

This one is behaviouring different than the other drives I have here, because it seems to lack Smart capability.

If I go to Disks (on Gnome), I am not able to see Smart data (the option is inactive).

Running the command sudo smartctl -a /dev/sdb1, it reports the following when it comes to display Smart data: “SMART support is: Unavailable - device lacks SMART capability.”.

The drive is formatted in ntfs. The reason I am asking this is because the drive was being disconnected and/or not mounting automatically, until I added a line to /etc/fstab to mount it automatically, in opposite to what happens to my other drives.

Any idea about what could cause this? Perhaps some problem with the drive itself?

Thanks in advance.

P.S.: I also installed the ntfs-3g package.
