This used to work but can’t determine why failing now - of course worked on windoze without issue

I can see the bootloader OS selections, but after no boot detail. Monitors time out.
I did see this in DMESG which seemed interesting:
[ 11.197851] input: Dell Inc K2 DOCK HID as /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:14.0/usb3/3-2/3-2.3/3-2.3.4/3-2.3.4.3/3-2.3.4.3:1.0/0003:413C:B06E.000C/input/input23
[ 11.198027] hid-generic 0003:413C:B06E.000C: input,hidraw5: USB HID v1.11 Device [Dell Inc K2 DOCK HID] on usb-0000:00:14.0-2.3.4.3/input0
[ 11.210426] usb 3-2.3.3.4: 3:1: cannot get freq at ep 0x86
[ 11.213527] usb 3-2.3.3.4: 3:2: cannot set freq 32000 to ep 0x86
I get it to work by opening the laptop lid, watching it boot, logging in and then the monitors wake up. Close the lid and work as normal, which sucks.
Thoughts?
