External input devices hang

I’m running kernel 6.14.2 on a Framework 13 with KDE Plasma 6.3.4 and I’ve been having major problems with my external mouse and keyboard. Both devices regularly hang - they become temporarily unresponsive, and in the case of keyboards keystrokes get missed or stuck down.

I had thought it was a Bluetooth issue, but I’ve now switched my mouse (Logitech MX Master 3S) and keyboard (Keychron K2 HE) to 2.4GHz using each device’s own receiver, and tried them both plugged in with cables and the issues persist, and seem to get worse when I’m performing high-CPU tasks. The laptop’s built-in keyboard and track pad both work absolutely fine.

How do I go about investigating and solving this issue?

Did you try running with one external device connected at a time? Did you try single device with all the USB ports?

Also I do not get it. You said you tried wireless keyboard and mouse, but then tried them with cables. Do they have both modes?

I would start with this.

Then I would try running from live CD.

I cured this once by abandoning my wireless setup and going USB with usb mouse & keys.

I am shocked this did not work for you. What does this mean?

It’s aggravating with a lot of lost production when it behaves this way. One time this happened to me it was a sign of a hard drive that was dying. It died.

I have heard of these lags and delays…they have plagued me all day in intermittent bursts…when I was wireless…I just accepted this as life with wireless so I went back to Old School…

…I am baffled by duplicate crappy mouse/key behavior between wireless and usb…I have never heard of this before. One has always cured the other…unless? (drawing a blank  )
