External HDMI monitor detected but no HDMI signal

Hello

My stack is: endeavour os / kde plasma / wayland.

I have a weird problem : I want to use an external monitor via HDMI (asus proart PA169CDV) but my screen stays black and keep resetting the config despite the fact that the screen is detected in the setting (the screen is also detected in the screenshot program, in the wallpaper setting, …):

I have tried with another screen given by my companies (iiyama) and everything look fine.

I use the exact same HDMI cable.

So I have two questions :

  • any idea how to debug this situation?
  • I have two usb-c on my computer, how to check if one of those support video? Do I need a special driver for that?

Since I have the following issue:

I try to add POWERDEVIL_NO_DDCUTIL=1 like the doc say., so now I don’t have any error log, but the situation hasn’t changed.

I have tried with a live env via USB and with another HDMI cable and I have the same problem. On Windows, the screen work.

I always have the dbus-:1.2-org.kde.powerdevil.backlighthelper@17.service: Deactivated successfully. log just before the settings reset.

Source: https://discuss.kde.org/t/powerdevil-is-re-setting-my-display-brightness-after-the-display-wakes-up/23079/2

FYI the content I add to the config:

So in my lunch break I bought a new HDMI cable (4k, high speed), then I ate and all the while the screen was disconnected from the PC, which I had just “locked” with cmd + l.
When I came back from my break, I plugged in the cable and the screen worked, I restarted my PC and here I am back at square one with the exact same connection…

If I close the lid the screen turn on
So I’m thinking this behavior is probably caused by a software problem, no ?

Ok I found a solution I guess, this is very weird but my screen work now: https://discuss.kde.org/t/external-hdmi-monitor-detected-but-no-hdmi-signal/33446/4?u=a2n
