So I’ve spent the last 10 hours on this across two full reinstalls and I’m at my wit’s end.
Machine is a MSI Venture 16 AI A2HMG, Core Ultra 9 285H (Arrow Lake-H), 64GB DDR5, Intel Arc integrated GPU, 1TB NVMe behind an Intel VMD controller. Running EndeavourOS with GNOME on Wayland, systemd-boot, dracut.
The problem is the desktop itself is just unusable. GNOME on Wayland is buggy as hell on the machine. Even opening a terminal freezes for like 30 secondes before becoming usable and then they work fine. Firefox is completely blocklisted for WebRender on ARL according to about:support, but again once its done freezing and if it doesnt crash after a while it starts working.
dmesg has this on every boot:
i915: GT1: GSC proxy component didn't bind within the expected timeout
i915: GT1: GSC proxy handler failed to init
Apparently a known Arrow Lake bug with i915, proxy binds eventually at ~35s, non-fatal. Also noticed both i915 and xe are loading . xe passively, no explicit conflict but not sure if that matters for the Wayland compositor.
i already did reinstall from a different USB to rule out a bad ISO. Same result.
Anyone running Arrow Lake with i915 + GNOME/Wayland successfully? Is xe actually more stable at this point for ARL? Any ideas appreciated, I’m out of options.
