i just ran the eos-update and got a few error mainly on downloading kcontacts and kholidays.
any thoughts or suggestions on how to resolve this would be greatly appreciated/

As @pebcak said, we need the error messages.
The easiest way to show them here is copy the full output (and the command itself) and paste it here. Then select the pasted text and press Ctrl-E, this makes it more readable.
LANG=C eos-update
This will make eos-update use english so you can tell us the error.
