Error installing repo packages - 02/11/25 - still an issue

I just tried to install EOS after quite a long time not using it and it’s unusable - “error installing repo packages”. I tried with and without updating mirrors before and after. It’s completely borked. I was looking for a simple arch based install, so I can’t be bothered with it and will just use Cachy but I thought I would mention it here because it’s a big issue for new users. I could spend hours troubleshooting it only to find out it’s only something you can fix on your side.

What type of install were you doing (Online/Offline)

Well, there have been very few posts regarding trouble installing repo packages upon initial install as far as I’m aware. So no, it is NOT a “big issue.” Neverhteless, there definitely is a problem in your specific case. Perhaps try downloading a fresh ISO?

@hikingferal
It’s obvious you haven’t been using EOS for quite some time. There are no big issues for new users here. Of course there can be issues installing and or updating sometimes with all distros’s. Currently none exist that I am aware of. It is more likely a specific issue in your case but also maybe you are reading it wrong. There have been ddos attacks that cause some issues with the AUR. That is not something that EOS has control over.

Edit: You can bypass updating the AUR by using pacman or eos-update then it would update everything except any AUR packages.

Reading it wrong? The repos are broken the error message is in the title.

It’s a big issue yeah. It’s a blocker. No need to install a fresh ISO I just installed Cachy and it’s repos are working.

The arch repo’s or the AUR repo? As i said there have been ddos attacks so sometime the AUR isn’t reachable. They only have one mirror for the AUR. Other wise if it’s arch repo’s then it’s a mirror issue.

That’s because they use a different AUR i think.

I did a fresh online installation using the latest EndeavourOS_Mercury-Neo-2025.03.19.iso only this morning and everything was peachy :peach:

Since you’re keen on jumping to conclusions @hikingferal the problem here must be you :index_pointing_at_the_viewer:

user had a real issue so no need to blame him, also he is may not correct with the assume that EndeavourOS has a repo package problem.

But not providing any details and no logs no full error output, its nothing more than that: sharing his frustration.

I do not see a request for help here? @hikingferal
If so we can go closing the thread, if yes i want to know what was happen exactly and why we could try helping .. but hard to do as of OS is already replaced.

Some remarks:

  • Rolling release OS needs to get updated regularly, and it is needed to manually resolve things on changes caused by rolling release model.
  • In case someone not that experienced is using a hands-on distro based on Arch, to jump in, onr should know to ask commuinity for help, and give them the needed info and logs if needed. Without that no one can help.
