These past 13 years or so, I’ve been using uim
on Linux Mint, and happily use ibus
on EOS/Cinnamon.
I’m thinking of giving EOS/KDE a trial spin, what IMF/IME does it use on a fresh install (or can it use)?
I don’t need fancy stuff or CJK input, just the following is mandatory:
- Unicode input via
Ctrl
+Shift
+u
. - Possibly, emoji input via
Super
+.
orSuper
+:
. - My lengthy
.XCompose
working correctly. - Ideally, not breaking
Espanso
(cross-platform text expander). - All above must work in the terminal, too.
I’m a little unsure here, since ibus
is rather integrated with GNOME, xim
never really completely worked for me (on Mint), and people are saying KDE would prefer Fcitx
…
I’m typically using the German deadtilde
keyboard layout plus a few modifications like nbsp
on 2nd level, Compose on Caps Lock, Unicode arrows/math on num block, etc.
Old man, finger memory, and lots of European languages to write, you know… Before I came to Linux full-time, I even made a Writer’s Keyboard for Windows (still used by some professional authors, but some bad design decisions, in retrospect—wish I had known the Linux kbd layout back then).
