EndeavourOS & Arch Live USBs fail to boot

if nothing helps … i can build ISO with beta drivers too if needed…

Just was able to read this thread.

ibt=off

will not help here as it is only an issue when using intel CPU as far as i know?

It would be also interesting to see the bootlog to see if there are any traces about failing Nvidia Drivers…

Something like journalctl -b -0 | grep nvidia could give a hint per example …
@cameron if you are still interested you can also send me a journal output in a PM to not post here in public (journals can hold private data…)

Module nvidia is blacklisted is what I get. I’m
now in the process of trying just nomodeset…

Edit: Oh my goodness, choosing the nomodeset option but removing all of the blacklisted modules works! X still throws an error, but then I’m in XFCE!

Which ISO are you using as i sent you a link with one i created using the 520.xx version drivers?

Edit: You may still need to use ibt=off but normally that is if you have an Intel Cpu. So changes made in the grub command line would be interesting to report also.

error is normal on nvidia loading… if you have all blacklists removed… it fights between nvidia and nouveau and solves itself after some restarts of the server…

I used a custom ISO I made, but Calamares failed with two missing packages when attempting to install from the ISO online option (but didn’t tell me which packages were missing). I’m trying to build the ISO again.

You can uncheck them when you go to install under network. ipw2100 and ipw2200 firmware or you can go into the packages in the installer and comment them out.

BTW i sent you another link for a custom ISO i built for you with the 520.xx version nvidia drivers. Again you need to uncheck those two packages to install as i forgot to remove them.

Edit: I’m just trying to figure out why it’s loading now because i asked you to use nomodeset before and as @joekamprad said the blacklisting shouldn’t matter. I know on my GTX 1060 it takes a while when booting on it for the screen to come up.

Edit: Booting on my custom ISO

Device-2: NVIDIA GP104 [GeForce GTX 1060 6GB] vendor: ASUSTeK
    driver: nvidia v: 520.56.06 alternate: nouveau,nvidia_drm non-free: 520.xx+
status: current (as of 2022-10) arch: Pascal code: GP10x
    process: TSMC 16nm built: 2016-21 pcie: gen: 1 speed: 2.5 GT/s lanes: 4
    link-max: gen: 3 speed: 8 GT/s lanes: 16 ports: active: none off: DVI-D-1
    empty: DP-1, DP-2, HDMI-A-3, HDMI-A-4 bus-ID: 03:00.0 chip-ID: 10de:1b83
    class-ID: 0300

It says the users@users modules could not be loaded again. Is there a way to fix this in debug?

And maybe because of weird issues with the kernel and nouveau, but removing all of the blacklistings on my custom iso did work. On the original, it failed.

i could give you a link to an ISO from 13.11.

Would that address the users@users module issue?

yes it have all fixes to work in the same way as the current release…
i will pm you with the link

uff very slow internet today in Germany … :sloth:

Is this error coming from a custom ISO you built?

Edit: Have you tried the latest ISO I one i sent you a link for? If it boots on it even if you have to do the same as you did to get it to boot you could try the install. You only need to uncheck the ipw2100 and ipw2200 firmware packages.

Is this error coming from a custom ISO you built?

Yes. I’ll try your iso.

Edit: It’s just taking a bit to download.

Okay, just one more question:

  1. If I have an AMD CPU & Nvidia GPU, do I need the intel-ucode package?

BTW, I’m almost at the finish line, so thank you guys so much for your help. You guys are better than the sort of snobs at the Arch Linux forums and truly care about your user base. Thank you.

No i don’t think so. Just make sure to uncheck ipw2100 ipw2200 firmware under network i think.

Edit: What I’m most interested in is if it boots on the ISO that i made.

Those packages weren’t there. But thank you again for your support. Seriously, I hate Winblows and Microshaft, and you guys really are awesome. Thank you so much.

P.S. I’m almost done with this installation!

Those packages may not be there on that ISO because i made another one after from some updates from @joekamprad and i forgot to remove them.

Oh. That makes sense.

So did it boot on that ISO? Did you make any changes to make it boot because i made it load the 520.xx version drivers.

Only the nomodeset with nothing blacklisted. X threw an error, only to load XFCE again. But this time, the installer actually loaded and let me install EndeavourOS!

What desktop are you installing?

Edit: I hope it completes without any issues.

Edit2: If you get it installed can you run this and provide the link
