Hi there, I recently have been using EndeavorOS with no issues. However now after logging in it boots fine and gets to the KDE login screen. After logging in I am treated with a black screen with a static white underscore in the top left corner. The OS is unresponsive in this state. I had retored some of my previous Timeshift backups but this didn’t fix the issue. The issue didn’t happen after any updates, just after normal use. I believe my last action was I put the PC to sleep using the sleep button from KDE. After waking I was greeted with the screen and restarts don’t fix the issue. I am using an NVidia graphics card and I don’t know what to do from here. Any help is much appreciated.
Welcome @Larsoff
Firstly, if you’re not already, I suggest logging in via X11, not Wayland. That should hopefully get you on your feet again.
Did you per-chance, enabled HDR in your Display Configuration whilst under Wayland? That is one way this issue can occur.
Hi Bink!
Thanks for getting back! You’re a great help so far! I logged in with X11 instead of Wayland as you suggested and I got in!
As for the HDR and Wayland yes I did exactly that! I thought it would make Elden Ring look a lot nicer but I don’t think it did anything and made my life harder haha. Do you have suggestions on how to undo HDR for the Wayland login?
I discovered after the fact (and perhaps many others), that this feature is apparently highly experimental when using Nvidia. It’s a bit of a shame it’s even an available option, because it proper breaks things.
Possibly. This fix may not work for everyone.
You might try renaming this config file before rebooting, and trying Wayland again:
sudo mv ~/.config/kwinoutputconfig.json ~/.config/kwinoutputconfig.json.bak
Hey Bink,
Thanks for getting back! Good to know it’s highly experimental, hopefully it gets fixed soon! I tried your suggestion and unfortunately it didn’t work for me. I also tried deleting the file right after that and it didn’t work for me either.
I found more info in another thread here:
I’ll keep trying a few more things from some threads but I’ll just keep using X11 for now as it’s working and hope that some updates will be pushed that fix this.
Thank you so much for you help!
