How secure is the encryption when I choose to encrypt the home folder during installation? How does it compare to a Veracrypt container (assuming lengthy & complex password)? Does anybody on here know about the encryption algorithm employed, practical attacks, etc.? I tried researching it before I asked but found very little info about home folder encryption in EOS or any Linux distro for that matter. If my laptop goes missing but the home folder was encrypted at install, how safe is my info?
It’ll be as safe as the strength of the password you used, both Veracrypt and LUKS are fine, which you should use depends on what you want to protect, in your case it being the whole home folder, I believe LUKS to be the better option.
