Easiest way to find an old post, or thread I created?

I can go to the Activity tab, and search through all my posts, but if I want to find something I posted a few years ago it s not so easy. Is there another way? (I know one can bookmark, but I never utilized that feature.)

In search, add @sempterobit to your search and it will search only your posts or topics.

Yes. I was getting to that page in a different way. I clicked my avatar in the top right, click the down arrow, and then clicking activity. I was hoping for a different way… I guess I will have to start using bookmarks from now on.

That is just a list of all your posts.

With search, you can list all your posts but you can also add other search terms so you can find a more targeted post.

Now this is the most helpful feature I learned about this forum so far!

I’ve often jotted down things I learned about EOS here, as help for others, but also as a reminder for myself—and then been unable to find them again, due to the sheer amount of posts. You sometimes remember “Wait, didn’t I write about this?” or “Hm, I remember @dalto saying something about that.”

Now I can actually find these again!

Thanks @sempterobit for asking it, and @dalto for answering it!

There is another helpful feature. You can bookmark threads or even single posts.
For bookmarking a complete thread you have to scroll down to the end of the thread and click the bookmark sign. To bookmark a single post click on the three dots under the post and then click on the bookmark sign. If you want to see the list of your bookmarks, click on your avatar in the menu at the top and then on the bookmark sign. The second way to open your bookmarks is opening your user profile, open activity and click on the bookmark sign. With the three dots behind the bookmark you can delete, modify or pin the bookmark.

Agreed, but the problem with bookmarking is knowing, at the time, if it should be bookmarked. Plenty of my posts are significant to me, but at the time they were made, I did not think they were. I am with @Moonbase59. You go thru life…and all of a sudden you think, wow, I thought of that, or said that, on EOS forum long ago, but…I did not bookmark it, so now I have to search for it. I suppose I could bookmark every post I make, but would only end up with what is already called the activity tab in the profile pages.

For the question of @Moonbase59 bookmarking is not the first choice, there you are right. But if you find a thread with the way @dalto mentioned you can bookmark it and hopefully never loose it. Inside the bookmarks there is a search available.

I use txt files and chatgpt and web browsers when I am looking for or troubleshooting something.

I only come to the forum if I cannot figure it out myself or if I am to anxious to concentrate on that “new thing I saw and want now” (meds are now helping me a bunch with this, I wish I had them sooner but, this is better than never)

Matter of fact I spent an hour or so last night with Mrs.GPT and she made me a wonderful python app that sits in my system tray and allows me to point and click and type my password to mount CIFS shares.

I know, I know, why don’t you just type out the command in the terminal? It isn’t that long?

Because unless I type that command over and over and over thousands of times, I’ll never remember it. My crazy, mixed up, confused brain hurts just thinking about it.
