Dolphin right-click "open as root"

There are 2 features that Nemo on LM 22 has that I’d love in EOS Dolphin.

The “Open Terminal Here” is already enabled, but I’d like to see “open as root/administrator”

Can I set that up?

https://archlinux.org/packages/extra/x86_64/kio-admin/

So kio-admin is installed by default on EOS Plasma. I’m not sure how I setup right-click admin access to a file with it??

You don’t run Dolphin as root, instead you go to View → Act as an Administrator if you show the menu bar. It’s under more if you don’t

That will work. They hid it well. Plasma is not as trusting as Linux Mint :grinning:

You can also use the keyboard shortcut for that:

Ctrl+Alt+Shift+A

That’s a nice shortcut. I had no idea I was going to learn so much today :grinning:

Dolphin is amazing, but it’s also somewhat bloated (in a good way) with a ton of options, many of which are hidden. Personally, I find that using keyboard shortcuts is much more productive. It might take some time to get used to, but once you do, everything just ‘flows’ effortlessly.

I can no longer see all of my monitor because of all the post-it notes with shortcuts on them.

Not hidden at all. open the folder your file is in, rightclick a empty space in the folder, select open as administrator, a dialog box will popup asking for your root password, after entering it will open a new Dolphin window just for that folder
. Now you should be able to do what you need to do with the files in that folder. when doe just click the finished button towards the top right of that Dolphin window.

Thanks, I think I must have tested it on a networked drive. On a local folder with a file it does show the open as admin just like Nemo on LM22

It’s copied from BigLinux. I converted it from AVIF to PNG cause we can’t upload AVIF files here or on Imgur.
