Ditching rEFInd - returning to grub? Oops ... NOW IN TROUBLE

Yup, EXT4 for sure. And EFI (not BIOS) for sure.

Rebooted into ISO thumbdrive again … Followed these steps above (didn’t seem to get any errors as compared to previous efforts and grub appeared to be reconfig’ed … Also confirmed that dev/sdb2 was my EOS partition and it was properly cited atop the fstab sequence…)

And yet, when I reboot and select any of the 6 linux kernel choices in my GRUB screen, I get the same “shim_lock_enabled” errors.

My issue seems to still revolve around some kind of shimlock thing.

I’m beginning to fear that my only solution might be to wipe out everything in my EOS partition with a fresh install, then rely on Timeshift and Vorta to bring me back to functionality? Yikes.

Is it this error?

symbol grub is shim lock enabled not found

Scratch that question. Yes it is.

Are you sure secure boot is disabled in your BIOS? Also, are you dual booting?

What bout deleting the Manjaro folder, two grubs might conflict.

Delete the Manjaro folder, then redo all the steps that I have told.

If you don’t have secure boot, and you are not dual booting, I think I’ve found a long-winded solution here: https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=287024&p=2

Basically, you delete unneeded entries in your boot partition, then reinstall Grub.

Yes, that was the error message. BUT… this just in …
Finally, S-U-C-C-E-S-S!

PEBKAC as usual:

In my haste I kept misreading the wiki instructions and carefully following the “Repair GRUB on BIOS” section instead of the immediately following paragraph “Repair GRUB on EFI” … sheer stupidity on my part.

Now she boots up perfectly - with more kernel choices than a guy could learn to love. And need. Like when his linux box is screwed up … because he keeps fixing things until it breaks.

Guys, you’ve been awesome. Cannot thank you enough!

Wish I could give multiple “solution” props but will pin those to @ddnn given his extraordinary patience and persistence.

Many thanks - with hopes this thread helps someone else along the twisted path. :vulcan_salute:
