Hi all,
when logging in the forum this morning I got the notification that I solved two topics but I even did not write any post in those threads. ![]()
Looking at the threads both have in common the OPs themselve marked their latest posting as solution. This looks like a bug in Discourse.
Does somebody else has the same finding?
I just got a solution notification for @SemLraug
just got the same thing happen to me
Edit: i think this could be connected to the topic closing? as the topic closed a couple minutes ago, and a couple minutes ago i got this weird notification that has nothing to do with me?
I just got one for @Schlaefer. The topic is not closed.
Seems I got the same notification for the same post as @Mellow
Seems related to tracking option for a thread, although I have never modified my tracking settings and don’t recall this happening to other threads in the past unless my answer solved it.
Yes, I never changed that setting in the past too.
Referring to https://meta.discourse.org/t/notifying-members-when-a-tracked-or-watched-topic-is-solved/399821 this seems to be a new feature of Discourse. In the link you can find a setting in preferences - notifications where you can disable this behaviour. In preferences - tracking you can define the behaviour how discourse should track or watch read threads.
But I don’t know what happens to threads where you post an aswers that gets marked as solution if you disable the mentioned setting.
I found the following under my notification settings which implies if I am just watching a thread, I get notified of a solution. Is this new, because I didn’t get such notifications before.
Notify when a topic that I am Tracking or Watching is solved. Only applies to topics in categories that allow solutions
I got one for this thread yesterday: Discourse error "topic solved" award - #5 by _Six
Never participated, just read over it. For some reason the thread status is “Tracking” instead of “Normal”, but I don’t remember changing it. ![]()
It’s indeed not something I have done. Frankly I had forgotten about that thread.![]()

In your case the notification is correct, because your post in that thread was marked as solution. But we all others got that notification too. This is new and seems to be related to this:
But why this was introduced to Discourse I don’t understand. I tried to find an entry in the changelog of the last releases but did not find an appropriate entry.
@Bryanpwo Can you shed some light on that matter?
It is simply a notification that a topic you have participated in or watched has a solution in the thread. This can be handy, in case you are (also) looking for a solution.
It is a new feature in your profile settings. If you don’t want that notification on solved topics, just uncheck the box.
(To be honest, I wasn’t aware of this feature since it wasn’t in one of the change logs, but perhaps they will enclose it by the end of the month. Since this feature was activated since the beginning of April. I update very regularly, and have been told that I am an early adopter when it comes to updates for Discourse in the past.)
OK. I unchecked the setting. Would be interesting, if the one who wrote the post gets a notification that his post is marked as solution.
@Bryanpwo Would you mind to uncheck the setting in your user and see if you get a notification after I mark your post as solution? ![]()
![]()
The setting is personal. In this case, you won’t receive a notification, the members who have it enabled still receive notifications.
My bad, I did not write correct what I wanted from you. ![]()
I know that this setting is private. I wanted to ask you if you can uncheck this setting in your user. I then mark your post as solution and would ask you to report if you got a notification that I marked your post as solution. This would bring back the former behaviour of the forum.
edit: you don’t have to do it. In some other thread someone marked a post from me as solution and I did not get a notification.
Conclusion: this is a new unwanted behaviour of Discourse …
Okay, I disabled the notifications.
I marked your first reply to me as solution. You will see that you do not get a notification as it was before the forum update.
Indeed, your right. Perhaps the devs wanted it to be like this and make it behave the same as the other notification options.
The solved feature was a separate plugin earlier with its own devs. Now it is baked-in in Discourse, hence the change to get it in line with the other notification options.
But from my perspective this notification does not work like the others. All other notifications are only related to my own posts. This one is related to posts of other users too.
Yeah. That would be great if the devs change the current behaviour.
