I am setting up a gaming PC for my living room, not something to call home about, just a Xeon E5-2680 with 32GB of DDR4 RAM and an RX 6600.
Which Desktop environment would you recommend / have used to use for Launching Steam, watching the occasional video and YouTube?
I am more inclined to GNOME as I feel has the “big screen” feeling.
PS. I am not sure if it’s the right category, so please move it if needed.
I think its safe to assume you’re looking for a distro for couch gaming. Feel free to correct me on that.
From what I’ve heard, Bazzite seem to be what everybody uses. I personally just go for the distro i like, preferably something arch based. Then install steam and just run that in big picture.
Steam OS is out now though, maybe that could be worth a try?
I know my OS and will be EndeavourOS.. I am just checking Desktop Environments on very big screens.
Can I play Videos and launch a music player, or run a browser through Steam Big Screen?
No experience myself, but perhaps of interest.
INHO the choice of DE matter less than setting up the screen resolution and fonts so that you can easily see from the couch. I would use KDE because you can configure just about everything and set up your desktop as you like. For the app launcher I would recommend the Dashboard app launcher as it would show up nicely on a pig screen
