So here’s a question borne of curiosity ; take this for example 
Generally when requesting account deletion, the process is automated and data is purged fully. This doesn’t quite happen on the Discourse platform as configured here. There are probably some wider questions around GDPR. Is there a better way of handling this so it’s not yet another job put upon the mods?
Anonymised data under GDPR is information that has been processed in such a way that individuals can no longer be identified, either directly or indirectly. This means that once data is effectively anonymised, it falls outside the scope of GDPR regulations.
They don’t purge fully because it ruins the thread for anyone in the future looking for the same info. Reddit is one of the most frustrating sources of info for this reason.
No idea why it isn’t automated though.
We will not delete the account. The user will be anonymized so that their posts remain intact.
I think the bigger question here is that once you post information on the internet is it actually your data anymore. I mean we all understand that posting on forums has no level of “Privacy” involved. Asking for all of a users post to be removed is dangerous as maybe that user had provided answers to several issues and now if the information is deleted no one in the future can benefit from that answer. I think that is why the system is set up the way it is. This information is not YOURS but is information that is SHARED.
Thanks for the input, it’s an odd one, in that potentially PII could be contained in any post, but @thefrog makes a valid point, - we’ve all been to Reddit to search for a solution only to find a response scrambled to randomised text. I think the point still stands that it absolutely could be automated so @swh isn’t sitting there having to do this manually

I am not a legal experience, but maybe if someone exposed PII on a platform and they request a takedown of that PII invoking the GDPR, such content will be removed? I am not entirely sure, to be honest…
I personally think if you post on the public 'Net, you’re accepting the risk and you have lost the rights to fully ‘own’ the data you have released voluntarily. However, I’m not a lawyer, just an opinion.
Never understood those “requests”. Even if your posts are completed deleted and purged here, they may have been cached somewhere else. So, think twice before you click the “button”. 
No one should be revealing anything about themselves that they can’t just walk away from anyway. On a similar note I’m suprised how many people here use the same names across platforms.
So er.. totally don’t mention the weekend sessions of smearing myself in marmalade and running at beehives screaming about jam being superior to honey..

^^ this. Once you post, it’s not yours anymore. anonymization is the best one can hope for in deletion requests.
--I shouldn’t say another word without knowing what Discourse’s Privacy Policy is when it comes to deletion. In the end, it would ultimately be up to them, not EOS, regarding your name/email and whatever bonafides you registered with.

About deletion requests: It may be unusual to read the terms of service, but sometimes it’s necessary before subscribing something. In those boring texts you can read what happens with your posts while you’re a member of the community and what happens when you’re no member anymore.
As everyone has fully agreed to those terms of service, no one should be astonished that their posts are not deleted.
