Recently I wanted to try DMS+Niri. I tried in Virtual Environment using gnome-boxes. I installed EOS with no desktop environment. Selected only Base Packages (Disabled X11). After installing i restarted i end up with a terminal screen I just ran the DMS shell script from the docs. Install finished without any errors. Installed DMS+Niri+Kitty. Then I installed SDDM and enabled the service. After that I made a reboot. SDDM login screen came when i click login the screen goes blank. How do i configure it to DMS? What I am doing wrong?

SDDM isn’t strictly required, if I’m not mistaken. DMS does provide the (optional) dms-greeter which is based on greetd.
I can’t really tell which steps have to be considered addtionally in the case of an VM install. There might be some issues in terms of the virtualization. I personally did installed DMS simply via a working KDE Plasma installation and there aren’t any conflicts in between Niri / DMS and KDE Plasma, they could coexit and via session selection I can switch between the DE/WMs.
Generally spoken, DMS ships with a fully preconfigured environment and you shouldn’t have to set one up from scratch. But you could check the post-install steps of the documentation to get you back on track.
SDDM will start Niri, not DMS (at least not be default). While I use ly for all of my different VMs, DMS does have its own greeter, install/config is here:
As far as I’m concerned, Niri needs 3D acceleration enabled in order to run in a VM.
It’s explicitly stated in their documentation:
Once that’s done, Niri should launch from SDDM properly.
I read thru all the replies. Tried 3d accelration on gnome boxes but couldnt find it. Installed virt manager and enabled 3d for some reason network adapter was not working in the guest mode. tried many solutions nothing worked. I cameup across a youtube where the guy installed niri+dms with sddm on cachyos. It worked fine for him. I saw the dank greeter but i have specific theme for sddm. So i decided to try it on live environment (EndeavourOS) without vm. I hope this should work and will update what happens.

The dank greeter has one benefit, you could sync it’s settings with your DMS theming and the color style and such would match the actual definitions of DMS.
I personally don’t bother that much. To me it’s just the password prompt. There are some options to customize it with a user defined background image as well as the choice of the fonts.
Sure, there might be fancier designs available for DMS. But from a functional aspect, there is no need to use sddm.
I even bet that there would be more control than the exposed configuration settings of DMS when you would like to add specific elements. But that would require to get familiar with qml at least to make the changes and needs to be seperated from the original code to avoid overwriting during updates.
UPDATE:
I installed niri with dms alongside KDE Plasma with sddm. I am getting used to it. Everything worrks fine so far. After few months into usage when I do a clean install I may switch to dank greeter. Thanks for the replies guyz
