Well imagine my surprise when three days ahead of the announced release date of 9/25/25, when I upgraded and the packages came down.
Since System76 hasn’t yet (as far as I can tell) posted a Release Notes, I’m not sure yet, what I got..but I got it.
Interesting news there’s a copy 72 hours ahead of official release. Someone’s an insider and it ain’t us
.
I will wait for an ISO to throw on Ventoy. I, too, have awaited this beast.
Up to now, Archlinux ARM repo has only offered 32 Bit packages for Cosmic.
Maybe now they will offer Cosmic aarch64 (64 bit) beta packages as well. ![]()
Pudge
32 seems so retro ![]()
Any word on what the resource usage is with Cosmic Desktop? Lets says switching from Gnome to Cosmic?
Ok, been using this for about a week and accidentally discovered a cool feature. After turning in “Tiled” for the desktop I found you can drag different apps together and they will tab up. So currently I have half the screen with my browser and the other half tabbed up with Ghostty session, signal-desktop and discord.
The good
- Tileable
- App grouping tabing
- Easy to use
- Don’t need Zink for Minecraft (Plasma, I do)
The Issues
- Cosmic Terminal is screen tearing with flashing lines
- Line In microphone for headphones does not seem to be an input source
Haven’t found anything bad with this DE and the issues I have minor workarounds.
Yep, it’s taken a while to get there (2 years?) but it’s coming along nicely and I can feel Beta quality, at least in my mind.
I’m still anxious to see the next dev phase, what they add. Certainly some things are lacking, though they’re mainly just QOL features, not basic functionality.
