Cinnamon Spices Borks Cinnamon

I’ve been using Cinnamon for quite a while now, but recently I noticed an irregularity in how my mouse works. I get to the center to the bottom of the screen and the mouse quits working. I move the mouse pointer back up past the center of the screen, and it the mouse works just fine.
I thought it was mouse, changed out the batteries, used another mouse and was still experiencing the same problem.
I then went through and made sure all the Cinnamon programs were up to date, and updated accordingly. This solve the problem for a minute.
Then I got mysterious screen blanking without rhyme or reason. Checked my video settings, screen saver (which I don’t use), but found nothing amiss.
The mouse issue also returned.
Logged out of Cinnamon and logged into XFCE and LXQT both of which do not exhibit the strange anomalies I am experiencing in Cinnamon.
I much prefer to use Cinnamon, but with these anomalies, it looks like I’ll be using either XFCE or LXQT for the time being.

Does anyone else have issues with Cinnamon Spices or Cinnamon in general glitching like this?

On x11 mode?

I downloaded something a month or two ago with no repercussions.
While this might not help you, it may show the bug is ‘newer’ at least.
I wonder what the chatter is upstream? You can’t be the only one.

It’s known, or variations of it for sure

Yes, on X11 mode.

Interesting.

wouldn’t be shocked if this was fixed in the next 3 updates…

This is unfortunately a by-product of Cinnamon’s relatively fast development cycle, and one of the reasons why I’ve shied away from it (as with KDE, in my experience). There are a ton of good Spices add-ons that are glitchy because they haven’t been updated to support the latest Cinnamon release.

I would suggest disabling all of the ones you’ve installed, then re-enable them one by one until you find the one that’s causing the problems. If this does not work, then I guess you’ll have to wait for the next update.

All my “Spices” were updated, and seemed to be working fine.
However, I’ll take your suggestion and do that sometime tomorrow.
As I am transportation for my grandchildren to get to and from school, it means early to bed for me.
I’ll report back with my testing and let you know.

Somewhere on cinnamon panel sjould has option restart wm also glasses log

Probably caused by “Spices Update” applet, just remove it and you’ll be fine!

Wowsers. Time to log back into Cinnamon and get rid of it.

Edit: Just nuked it. Now I’ll wait and see if that took care of it.
