Cinnamon 6.6.0-1 breaks Desktop and Panel

This evening I updated Cinnamon to version 6.6.0-1 and immediately lost both the desktop and panel. I was able to downgrade Cinnamon to version 6.4.13, and after a reboot, everything is back to normal. I have edited the /etc/pacman.conf file to ignore Cinnamon for the time being. Any help and /or ideas are appreciated. Thank you!

The issue has been fixed by updating to Cinnamon version 6.6.0-2

I saw the same thing. I’ve tried on real hardware, in a VM, with XLibre: all failed to load a complete desktop. Even Cinnamon (Software Rendering) didn’t work.

Strange thing is that there are very few error messages, giving little information as to why this is happening.

The sad reality is that Cinnamon users on Arch are basically beta testers for Linux Mint. I would suggest opening an issue at https://github.com/linuxmint/cinnamon/issues (I could not see a current issue that described your problem as above).

Also noticed the same thing and was looking around for a fix or if to just hold back on this.

me as well (Cinnamon)

Endeavour un-usable for me. Will stand by today for a remedy.

my terminal unusable for entering characters.

Will try this in tty boot thank you.

What does the -replace do? Replace same version with same version I wonder?

This is fixed by updating to Cinnamon version 6.6.0-2

It’s actually --replace, with 2 hyphens - this forum combines 2 hyphens into one longer dash (an em dash) unless you format the text.

Basically it restarts Cinnamon.

will give it a shot in a while.

I should be able to ctrl+alt+F2 a terminal right out of the broken desktop I hope. thanks for the info

for the record or anyone experiencing this: the cinnamon –replace command produced ‘invalid command’ (or something) in terminal output. It did not work.

What did work: pacman -Syu because Arch/Endeavour had a new Cinnamon update ready, so reboot and I was fine.

It should have been cinnamon --replace i.e. a double hyphen/dash.

I did use two hyphens*

it was still rejected. but no worries the update fixed it

*unless I mangled the m’s and n’s in cinnamon in my haste
