Chrome and brave menus too large after update

I just updated chrome and brave browser but now all the menus and and address bar are too large (2x). I have a 4k screen and have scaling at 200% as before when all worked well but not now. I can zoom out so the browsers’ display content correctly but menus are still like megablocks lego. Firefox and other apps are all scaled correctly. Any ideas. Thanks.

What desktop environment are you using? How are you applying scaling?

Brave is based on Chromium, as is Chrome (or you can say Chrome is based on Chromium… either way) so any changes upstream will apply to both.

I am using KDE. I apply the scaling by going into the display configuration and apply a 200% global scaling. This has worked for me in Manjaro since I got my 4k machine in March 2020 and now in EndeavourOS since I switched over in January.

I found a solution on the ubuntu forum

google-chrome-stable --high-dpi-support=1 --force-device-scale-factor=2
brave --high-dpi-support=1 --force-device-scale-factor=2

I wondered if that might be the case - I run with force-device-scale-factor=1.5 on my XFCE systems, but the problem I’m fixing was the opposite (too small without it - I don’t global scale) so I didn’t propose it as a fix…
