Changing login screen & themes

Hi,

I got a fresh install of Endeavour os.
I use kde plasma ssdm as display manager.
I want to change my login screen & install a ( downloaded ) theme.

Everytime a security warning notification pops-up, when I want to install a login screen.

  1. I can install a downloaded login screen, select it. but after a reboot, I get several errors that the matching theme is not installed.

So I have to use one of the standard login screens.
What I’m a doing wrong?

  1. if I want to download a theme, I got a security warning notification pops-up.

" Network error; 500 ..etc internal error.."
What is this?

  1. When I download a theme like Breeze-Noir-Dark Plasma Theme

http s ://github. com/L4ki/Breeze-Noir-Dark

from pling.com store, how can I use it?

Any ideas?

D.

According to the description on Pling, it’s for Plasma 5.23 which means it’s not compatible with Plasma 6.

Aha, that explains that.

What I recognized is that there are a lot of extensions offered in Plasma settings that don’t work with Plasma 6. And often you are not able to recognize that in the extension manager. I often installed such themes, extensions and so on and wasn’t able to boot. Then I had to restore a snapshot that I created before trying out extensions.

I think this is a point that KDE devs could approve.

I use the KDE Store for such things. Then I can read the description of the extension, widget, theme, splash, or whatever.

Could be a possibility. I would love to use the extension manager integrated in KDE Plasma and get extensions for my used Plasma version only.

What extension manager? There really isn’t one, unless I’m missing something. I know various parts of settings has a “get new” button, though. But I never use that because of the warning tab and lack of descriptions.

so this all because of version 5.23?
lets hope things get updated for version 6.

That’s what I mean!

Yeah, that’s annoying … :frowning:

Yeah, when they updated from version 5 to version 6, they changed from Qt5 to Qt6 and made quite a lot of breaking changes. Many themes and extensions still haven’t been updated for Plasma 6.

The developer may or may not update it. There’s no telling. But for extensions, applets and such I go to the extensions section of the KDE Store and look under the ones already listed as Plasma 6.

I see. Well, personally, I’d rather search for what I know works at the KDE store and use that. I also sometime see if a given extension, widget or whatever is available in the Arch repo or AUR. That way, it gets updated.

Actually, I switched to GNOME. Maybe I’ll go back to KDE and then I’ll look on the KDE Store for extensions only.

Now I have to look around how to change all that stuff in GNOME. :joy:
