Changing default monitor that apps open onto

Hello! I’ve been having issues with apps opening onto my second monitor instead of the monitor that I have set as my Primary Display in the Plasma settings. I’ve been told that it’s a common issue, and I’ve been setting most programs that I NEED on my primary display to only be on the primary display, but it’s been difficult with some games launching on my vertical monitor.

I’ve seen some similar topics but I’m not sure if either I’m implementing the fix wrong, or if the fix is different for the current version of plasma or what.

Any help would be appreciated!

For reference, I am on KDE Plasma 6.1.4, and Linux 6.10.6-arch1-1.

In the app, if you go to the window settings (generally top left corner), you can bring up options to set this.

More Actions > Configure Special Window Settings…

If Screen isn’t present as an option, click Add Property, scroll down to Screen and add it.

The primary monitor is represented as 0. Your secondary would be 1, and so on. Apply, then try restarting the app in question. I tested this just now with Kate, and it worked.

Lutris has settings for this if you run games through it. I used to use its’s settings to launch the game on my secondary screen and turn off the primary display.

I’d been trying to do that, but with “Apply Initially” it doesn’t matter if I use 0 or 1, it still goes on my secondary monitor. When I use “Force” it does work, which is fine, but I was hoping there would be an option that wouldn’t make me unable to put windows on my secondary display.

Perhaps add the property “Ignore requested geometry”. That will let you ignore the apps requested geometry. Set it to force and yes.
