Have you got a working ROM?
I downloaded the dev version of /e/ from their official mirror on sourceforge
EDIT: And the error message pops up again.
at which point do you get the error message?
After reboot from TWRP. Just at the beginning of setup. The first screen of my setup is the white background with an āeā as a logo in the center and at left bottom Emergency Call and right bottom is Next
Donāt you think you would get more specific support for specific /e/ issues over at their community forum?
Hey, not meaning you are not getting expert support here
Back to TWRP.
-
just thought (apologies) new lineage is unstable if Magisk not flashed alongside rom. Go to XDA and get the Magisk manager for your device on your PC. then the following.
-
full wipe of the device again.
-
also format the device in TWRP
āformat deviceā type āyesā in terminal. -
reboot to recovery.
-
reconnect PC and transfer zips again.
-
reboot to recovery
-
flash rom, gapps and Magisk Manager. dalvik wipe after each
done
if your zips aref from sourceforge Iād get new ones from XDA.
Sourceforge? Are you sure that is an official mirror?
For your make and model ( Samsung Galaxy A5 (2016) - āa5xelteā ?) , I get the following link for download:
from /e/ foundation site. See also:
that link is for firmware install via heimdall.
shouldnāt be necessary at this point. load only the following zips onto your freshly wiped android.
rom.zip
gapps
magisk manager
absolutely nothing else despite online tutorials that state otherwise.
A bit further down that link there are instructions for installing via TWRP?
By the way, isnāt @Endlich trying to install /e/ and not Lineage?
My apologies. Replace my lineage with your /e/OS
process rremans the same . rom.zip, gapps
magisk optional at this stage.
with the error message youāve encountered, double-check the rom.zip is the absolute latest for your defvice
/e/ doesnāt use Gapps. Thatās the whole purpose of it
Clean device. Rom.zip
By the way, this is (in my opinion) a cool website to fully compare phone specs (and prices even)
You should definitely (still in my opinion) check Xiaomi and Poco (which is another brand from Xiaomi) as theyāre usually totally under-priced compared to other brands with same specs (OnePlus is more and more premium priced i.e.) and still have a kind of āpremiumā feel.
Theyāre a bit heavier than Samsungās for the same size/specs I think. But so much cheaper.
Even their custom layer on top of android aināt that bad (once you debloated it lol)
Definitely check XDA forums (before hand) to find fire (even ungoogled) custom roms and see if your next purchase could easily be degoogled and all.
(Iāve no incentive whatsoever in promoting Chinese phones ^^ (which is where ALL the phones come from anyway if you think about it :P), and, if i could afford it I think I would only buy Sony ones, plus I love the ratio size of some of their models)
I have always degoogled all of my (and my family/friend) phones since Galaxy S2 (which is only 3 phones away for me⦠i keep them till theyāre bored of me ^^). Had some iPhones when it was the only "smart"phones, up to 3Gs I think⦠but then⦠well⦠you know⦠Appleā¦
I think you can install Linux yourself on some android phones. Have to check how well it works⦠if anyone has experience it maybe ?
I can ignore that error message, then my phone runs normal and without any issues. I like their apps store
Iāve been using CalyxOS on a Pixel 3a XL for over a year now and Iām super happy with it. Installed the modded GCam from XDA and my needs are perfectly met with F-Droid + Aurora Store. Though to be honest, my needs from a phone have turned pretty minimal. Pictures and Signal are the vast majority of my usage, with some navigation when I want to get around bad traffic.
I only hear good things about CalyxOS. Itās a pity that just a limited number of devices are supported, namely only Pixel phones and one Xiaomi model.
Yea, their requirements are that the bootloader must be able to be locked after a custom OS is installed. Turns out not many phones can do that. Helps greatly with security. Though GrapheneOS is unsurpassed when it comes to uber-security, at the cost of usability.
