Can't install steam through Pacman

Even though steam is on the offical repo (https://archlinux.org/packages/multilib/x86_64/steam/) when I search steam using pacman it only comes up with this

$ sudo pacman -Ss steam
community/sl 5.02-6
    Steam Locomotive runs across your terminal when you type "sl" as you
    meant to type "ls".

and when I try and install steam it says

sudo pacman -S steam
[sudo] password for [name]:
error: target not found: steam

If this is an endeavouros install that should work. If this is an Arch linux install the multilib repo is not enabled by default. You would need to change this to get access to the steam package.
You need to edit /etc/pacman.conf
So in terminal:
sudo nano /etc/pacman.conf
Scroll down until you see this:

#[multilib]
#Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

Change it to:

[multilib]
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

Then ctrl+x and select save.
Then update the sysytem however you normally do and try the commands again:
sudo pacman -Ss steam

The multilib repo is enabled, and it is still showing the same output as before.

Welcome aboard! :smile:

I think this is what it should show:

$ pacman -Ss steam
community/sl 5.02-6
    Steam Locomotive runs across your terminal when you type "sl" as you meant to type "ls".
multilib/steam 1.0.0.68-1
    Valve's digital software delivery system
multilib/steam-native-runtime 1.0.0.62-2
    Native replacement for the Steam runtime using system libraries

So is your /etc/pacman.conf in order?

Update your package list, then search:

$ pacman -Ss steam
community/sl 5.02-6
    Steam Locomotive runs across your terminal when you type "sl" as you meant to type "ls".
multilib/steam 1.0.0.68-1 [installed]
    Valve's digital software delivery system
multilib/steam-native-runtime 1.0.0.62-2 [installed]
    Native replacement for the Steam runtime using system libraries

Please share your pacman.conf and the specific steps you have tried to install Steam.

Might be a mirror problem? Try updating:

sudo reflector -cus -phttps -a1 --score 10 --save /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
sudo pacman -Syyu
pacman -Ss steam

That worked, thanks!
