Canon LBP2900b Delays Before Printing on Linux – Is This Normal?

Hi all

I’ve been able to install the Canon LBP2900b driver successfully and printing is now working. The driver package I used is from : https://printerdrivers.com/canon-lbp2900b-driver/

What I’m realizing, though, is that the printer takes a long time to start printing once I’ve sent a document from CUPS. The print quality is good once it starts, but quite often there is a delay of 20, 30 seconds before the first page is printed.

Has anyone else noticed this with the Canon LBP2900b? Is there any change in the CUPS setting or CAPT configuration could help with lowering this startup delay?

Thanks!

Welcome to the EndeavourOS forum. :handshake: I hope you enjoy your time here.

A driver for the Canon LPB2900-capt is available in the AUR

They list it as canon-lbp2900-capt as opposed to LBP2900B.
Is there a difference between LBP2900-capt and LBD2900B?
Maybe it works better as it is complied specifically for Archlinux?

personally, and this is a hunch, the drivers you got from your source are weird.

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=298397 the second sentence of the first post says this in the AUR. Uninstall outside source drivers and install local (AUR) drivers might be worth a try.

I have a Canon monochrome and that thing took a while as I recall

edit: ^^ what pudge said

Thank you for the suggestions and the welcome!

After doing more tests, I realized that my problem was not related to driver or CUPS settings. Actually, my USB cable was the cause of the problem. As a matter of fact, it was quite an old one, and the moment I changed it with a new one, the printer started to work as usual.

Now the annoying 20-30 seconds delay before the printer starts printing is finally gone, and print jobs are launched almost immediately.

So, I hope that this piece of information will help even those who come across such a problem of LBP2900b printer.

Thank you again for the assistance!

nice catch!
