Hi all,
I noticed after the recent updates that i cannot switch between Wayland and X11, when i sign off and select X11 as session and enter my password i just get a black screen. When i press ctrl + alt + f1 i get to a login screen again, i need to sign off and login again but no matter what i do the screen remains black. I have to reboot in order to get back to my wayland desktop section again. I am not sure if this has something to do with the latest nvidia drivers ?
Which one KDE?
GNOME?
OTHER?
I am sorry, KDE. If any outputs are needed please let me know. The notebook i am talking about has a RTX 3070 ti card. I also did not anything weird, just update the system using the yay command and only installed the steam application after i installed EOS. The nvidia driver that is installed is the latest open drivers. The latest mesa drivers i did not installed, i saw messages on the forum that they have issues with RTX cards. So those are for now temporary blocked by the pacman.conf file.
Edit: I tested the 2 other notebooks in this household. On the 13 years old HP Pavilion G7-2310ED (ati card) and on the 8 years old Acer Predator G9-793-71SJ (GTX 1070 card) i cannot replicate this. Strange…
Query: after installing / updating EOS, did you use “nvidia-inst” before installing steam? That has happened to me before. I’ll install steam and then run the nvidia-inst and I had issues. Just thought I’d throw that out there…
I used the nvidia option during install (from the grub menu) after installation i installed steam. During updates i switched from closed to open nvidia drivers. But i have zero issues with steam, i have a issue when i logoff and want to switch to x11, my system wont let me. I can enter the password and bam…black screen.

any errors in sddm.service or in journalctl ?
Well i tested it again on my main machine, did some updates and it’s working. Not sure if the updates fixed it or the reboot but i am happy with it as it is.
Thanks all for the help.
