Cannot login to Yahoo mail

Hi,

after eos-update I cannot neither connect to imap.mail.yahoo.com using Thunderbird (authentication failure), nor login using the web (tried both Firefox and Vivaldi). I tried booting with the fallback option with no success. But, I can login to my yahoo-mail from Windows. Any tips how to resolve this?

Maybe it’s a different keyboard layout. Have you tried to log in with a screen keyboard? With that you can see which key you type.

By the way, welcome to forum, @HaBe . Have a nice time!

Welcome to the community @HaBe :tada:

Could you please share the output of:

timedatectl

Could you also confirm when you run that, that the Local time is accurate and correct.

Have you noted any issues logging into any other services as well?

Yahoo mail is sometimes kind of finicky when it comes to VPN services.
If you are using a VPN try turning the VPN off.

I’m not using VPN.

Have not seen any such option.

Local time is accurate and I have not noticed any issues with other services.

Had a similar issue on the update to Thunderbird 148. Googling your error should give lots of results such as https://connect.mozilla.org/t5/discussions/yahoo-mail-has-stopped-working-in-thunderbird/td-p/109418 . Basically had to generate a new app password in yahoo mail and enter that password into the thunderbird server settings.

I had to do the same, but Thunderbird opened an internal browser window and let me do it from there.

I have Thunderbird 148.0. I tested what was in the link you provided. Unfortunately they didn’t solve the problem. What baffles me is that Yahoo mail is not accessible on the web (but from Windows). Can there be a setting that is changed when I updated eos?

Have no idea. Maybe firewall?? You will need to research your specific error message(s).

What’s the error message the browser is giving you?

If I test login.yahoo.com or mail.yahoo.com nothing happens. In Firefox dots appear on the tab, flashing for a while. Nothing more. No visible error message returned. In Thunderbird I receive a message which says that logging into imap.mail.yahoo.com failed given my user name (email).

Can you try pinging them, and share the output please?

ping -c 2 login.yahoo.com
ping -c 2 mail.yahoo.com
ping -c 2 imap.mail.yahoo.com

First off, have you cleared your browsers cache and cookies? Other things to try:

Have you tried a different profile in your browser?

And have you tried other browsers?

I wasn’t able to test when I posted earlier as I was on my phone, but I can confirm all three of those Yahoo links can be ping’d under normal circumstances.

I’d be interested to see two things from those tests:

  1. Does it correctly resolve the DNS.
  2. If it correctly resolves the DNS, can you successfully ping the remote server.

@andrewb, it would seem to be consistent across applications.

Dos this issue relate to the following advisory issued by Thunderbird?
