Okay i did have snapper installed but i uninstalled it momentarily. I’m trying to understand. Where are the snapshots kept? I don’t understand how this works.
They will be in .snapshots. However, you probably haven’t taken any yet,
The btrfs assistant application has more functionality when snapper is installed. Have you tried running the application yet?
You can go to the snapper config tab and create the configs in the gui. If you then enable timeline snapshots and start the snapper-timeline timer you will start getting snapshots. All of that can be done in the application.
Just installed it. Where is the .snaphots. Does the program create it?
You need to create a config first, on the snapper config tab.

Okay… what about settings. I really have no idea what to set things at because i have zero experience with this stuff.
Enable timeline snapshots.
Everything is personal preference and doesn’t really matter much.
Once the config is created you should be able to take manual snapshots as well.
How do you do manual snapshots. In terminal you mean?
On the snapper tab. Click “New Snapshot”
There are only four tabs. Just play around and you should see how it works.
It doesn’t allow you to give any description or anything?
It doesn’t current support creating a manual description.
If you install snap-pac, you will get snapshots on pacman installs/updates and be able to see those.
Okay i see .snapshots in the list how did that get created? When i created the config?
Yes, snapper creates it.
Oh snapper creates it. Okay this i very easy but because i have no idea what is needed and what i needed to do to set it up so it’s hard to understand. So do i have to enable any service such as btrfs ???
You need to enable snapper-timeline and you should probably enable snapper-cleanup. Both can be enabled with checkboxes on the btrfs tab
You can also create configs for other subvolumes if you choose to. For example, if you want snapshots of home.
