Yeah well there is no “standard” to measure actual usage of Linux (or any OS actually)

This is as close as we get so far…

Also EndeavourOS got a shout out from Brodie in his most recent video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UjSik8kQRH8

Thanks for reminding me I haven’t watched his latest videos, have been busy at work(yes I worked over the holidays).

Yeah but why do Arch based distros dominate the gaming scene?

SteamOS is the most widely used and is based on Arch.

Steam wasn’t based on Arch until just recently 2022. It was Debian based before.

Probably duo the fast updates like nvidia or kernel that are needed for gaming ?

I used Pop! OS for 3 years, i can tell you the updates are slow! Nvidia drivers takes weeks if not months to update.

Arch based it takes a few days. As it is a rolling distro (like windows).

There will be some advantages to using the stable-cum-non-rolling characteristics of Debian.

About the driver updates, these go into the linux-firmware package and its children. These can be updated as and when it is required. Further with Debian’s emphasis on using the LTS kernel, that gives it a longer period of support.

I my opinion there is no advantages to using “stable” Debian and using it for gaming that’s just dumb!

You gonna have less performance, more issues etc…

And Debian’s package manager is horrible like a Shitty version of MSdos.

I could not get into Linux until I tested Arch Linux and saw the potential and future then Valve saw it to and rest is history.

Is there any article or talk or youtube video which sheds on this shift? i.e. from Debian to Arch? And why did Valve make it?

Besides better and less issues Maby this?
