Hi all. I’m reading the wiki about bumblebee install (for reference I’m running 390xx drivers on an old dell precision w/ optimus, or at least trying to.) No matter how much config tinkering I do, bumblebee won’t launch. Now I believe this is because I did not properly turn off the discrete graphics card in bios before configuring, I wasn’t aware my PC had the option but we live and learn .
If I remove the following: -Rns bumblebee --nodeps nvidia-390xx nvidia-390xx-utils lib32-nvidia-390xx-utils lib32-virtualgl
(I also have a feeling I’ll need to clear my Xorg configs as well.)
Then I’d in theory reboot to switch to the proper bios settings, will I be able to have a fresh slate? Should I throw primus and vulkan on the list, or do I need to remove all dependencies that hang on these packages? Or is it likely I’ll be able to just reboot with the proper bios settings and reinstall bumblebee/related packages to get things up and running without removing anything?
Or if I’m way off base, please set me straight.
Thanks!
Alright, I figured it out! I’m gonna leave what I did here in case anyone else new and trying to get themself out of the this situation stumbles across the thread. The above command works, sort of but you have to remove steam first and add --nodeps, and write nvidia-390xx-dkms instead of nvidia 390xx. Like this.
sudo pacman -Rns bumblebee bbswitch primus primus_vk nvidia-390xx-dkms nvidia-390xx-utils lib32-nvidia-390xx-utils
Even running with nodeps didn’t work with steam installed, and keep in mind this may be overkill. Someone smarter than me could say if only bumblebee and the drivers need to be removed. Then reboot, turn off switchable hardware and reinstall everything removed. Follow instructions in the wiki and bumblebee will run properly! You may have to manually edit the conf files for bumblebee and Xorg after too in order to make sure it points to the right locations, wherever they may be on your system.
