[Bug] eos-breeze-sddm 25.11.1.2-1 enables virtual keyboard for existing desktop installations

Description:
After updating eos-breeze-sddm from 25.02.1.1-1 to 25.11.1.2-1 (December 3, 2025), a virtual keyboard now appears on the SDDM login screen when clicking on the password field. This is unexpected behavior for desktop systems.

Cause:
The update added InputMethod=qtvirtualkeyboard to 10-endeavouros.conf:

[Theme]
Current=eos-breeze

[General]
InputMethod=qtvirtualkeyboard

Issue:
According to the Ganymede release notes, the switch from Maliit to Qt6 virtual keyboard was intended for new installations. However, this configuration change was applied to existing systems via package update, which is undesirable for desktop users.

System info:

  • EndeavourOS (Arch-based)
  • sddm 0.21.0-6
  • eos-breeze-sddm 25.11.1.2-1
  • KDE Plasma 6.5.3
  • Kernel 6.17.9-arch1-1

Workaround:

sudo sed -i '/InputMethod=qtvirtualkeyboard/d' /etc/sddm.conf.d/10-endeavouros.conf
sudo systemctl restart sddm

This issue also affects other distros like Debian after SDDM updates.

Thanks!

I have all the updated versions you report and my login screen has the ability to launch a virtual keyboard. It’s not automatically loading or anything. I can enter my password without any issue. I’m not sure what your issue is?

Edit: I’m not sure what the intention is for the virtual keyboard? I know it’s there for the live ISO as far as I know. I don’t have any issue just because it resides on the login screen.

Edit: I’ll leave this for the devs to give their input.

To clarify: the virtual keyboard pops up automatically every time I click on the password field. On a desktop with a physical keyboard, this is disruptive. I have to dismiss it before typing.
With multiple user accounts, I need to click on the username/password fields, triggering the keyboard each time. This makes sense for tablets/touchscreens but not for desktop installations.
The issue is that this behavior was pushed to existing desktop installations via package update, not just new installs as the release notes suggested.

This isn’t the normal behavior. This doesn’t happen on any of my systems. So i think the issue is specific to your installation.

I have the same issue, on the sddm theme I’m using (Monochrome Plasma 6). Virtual keyboard started to pop up when focusing on password field. This doesn’t happen when switching to eos-breeze theme though.

I’m on the standard theme and haven’t seen this happen.

Well I am not on the standard theme, but use the breeze login screen, without any problems also.
