Budgie not starting correctly

After latest update via yay Budgie doesn’t start right. After login a white screen appears which tells me that there is a problem. After logout and login again I only see black screen with desktop icons. No menus etc. at all :frowning:

Via desktop icon I can open Nemo. But in the windows the symbols for min/max/ close window are missing.

On my laptop downgrading mutter works. But on my desktop system it doesn’t :frowning:

I have the same problem!

/CK

Technically the temporary workaround look like this:
CTRL+Alt+F2
log in

su
downgrade mutter

extra/mutter 47.6-1 lets you in.
in /etc/pacman.conf
IgnorePkg = mutter
can be lifted later

Downgraded to 46.0-3. Worked only on one machine. Same with 47.6-1

Idk. I would try update first with
yay
and then downgrade mutter

Sadly no solution. Even the new mutter version 48.0-4 does not help.

For the moment i stay with an older version. With that I can access the desktop in a limited form. And thanks to a console shortcut I can open apps

seems there is already a fix on the way..

Yea I got this similar error. Ended up making a simple script to fix my issue without out downgrading mutter. Checking logs revealed errors related to g_settings_get_mapped() in org.gnome.mutter, which caused budgie-wm to crash - quick and dirty fix

system info (for anyone curious)

The updated package eos-settings-budgie version 1.8-1 should fix the issue.

 endeavouros/eos-settings-budgie 1.8-1 (14.5 KiB 679.0 B) (Installed)
    Budgie settings for EndeavourOS

is there in a new install but unfortunately did not fix the issue with me.

fix.sh of @athens420 works though.
(downgrade mutter –log in– upgrade mutter and run fix.sh)

fixed it for me. At least with mutter 46.5-1. Not sure if i should update to 48.0-4.

I am having the same issue here. How do I get to a terminal window if I get the crash as soon as I inter my login password? I am on a live boot now.

Thanks

With a right klick on the desktop, you will get the window budgie desktop settings.
Now klick on “Autostart” and add the terminal application.
After the reboot, there will be the terminal window.

In this case you don’t have to be on a live boot.
Boot your installed system.

Thanks, I will give it a try!!

Or have a look here

for me budgie desktop settings had not worked when budgie wm crashed :frowning:

what worked for me was to ssh into that machine (ok ssh has to be enabled) from an other PC.

I was able to start the system into terminal without gui while booting the system with pressed keys Ctrl-Alt-F3.

Ctrl-Alt-F3 worked, and I was able to downgrade to an earlier version 47.0-3. It’s working now. The terminal window was a bit wonky, I couldn’t scroll to see all versions, so I just selected 47.0-3. Oh well things are back to okay so far.
Cheers Mate
