You should be doing both scrub’s and balance’s on a regular basis. I recommend monthly.
btrfsmaintenance provides some systemd units to help with that. If you want a GUI, Btrfs Assistant is a front end for btrfsmaintenance. In the spirit of full disclosure, I am the maintainer of Btrfs Assistant.
