Brave browser canvassing

In librewolf; this is weird:

Never seen this from any search engine. Unsettling..

It’s more than Unsettling ….!

Just another reason to never use a browser made by an ad company.

How is this troubling?

Brave blocks canvas fingerprinting by default. Canvas fingerprinting is a technique that allows tracking by using a unique identifier based on how your GPU renders images. Again, Brave blocks this by default. However, blocking it can negatively impact or break some websites (online image editors, for example).

You are being asked if you want to temporarily disable the blocking. It’s still being blocked, but it’s putting you in control.

So how is this alarming? I am no fan of Brave but this specific example is a good thing for those who are concerned about tracking.

I agree it would be unsettling if it took the control away from me. The fact the browser itself wanted to canvas still a little off. Usually it says “bank X is trying to canvas you” or similar. First time its referred to itself as trying.

The browser doesn’t want to “canvas” you. Canvas fingerprinting is a technique that websites (and associated corporation) can use to track you. Brave blocks their ability to do this by default.

you are probably right and I didn’t notice, but i think this is a librewolf feature. I don’t use Brave often,

I have it blocked at Endeavour site (nothing to do witth brave)
