So. Here we are again. I just fresh installed, OVER a new install of Endeavor that I messed up catastrophically trying to install Steam. We have here an Asus g75vx laptop. Any time I try to install Steam, it wants me to select a number. 7 potential numbers in total. I have tried number 2 and upon reboot, my monitor is stuck at 800X600 resolution with nothing else available. What’s more, the games simply never load and go. They sit there for a moment then just go back to the play icon. A couple like Civilization 5, Project Zomboid, Cities Skylines, run with no issue.
The last time I installed Endeavor was yesterday, installed Steam, loaded Civilization 5, and played with no problem. It was only upon reboot that the resolution became an issue.
I have tried googling the computers model number, and following AI advice as far as what number to pick. It all seemed to make sense, but the problem is still there.
I have distro hoppped all over the place. Endeavor is the OS that wants to be here. Small footprint, WiFi works right off the bat, it just FEELS good on here.
But I simply cannot get Steam to install without wrecking it.
If I stick with something like Prism launcher, it will run MC without an issue at all. I was asked last time to run a command… inixi -Gaz. Here’s the result of that with a clean install: Graphics:

Can someone point me towards how to get Steam up and running? I’m freshly installed, ran updates, so I’m all ready to go. Just tired of doing the dance with Steam. I have tried this a LOT on a lot of distros. That’s why I came here. I admit defeat lol.
If it wants you to pick a vulkan driver, pick vulkan-nouveau
Otherwise, please post the list of things it wants you to choose between so we can let you know what the correct one is.
A simple yay -S steam has always worked for me.

which brings up ANOTHER set of numbers lol
Same thing. lib32-vulkan-nouveau
Steam needs vulkan drivers installed to work but pacman doesn’t which drivers are needed for your hardware.
So 8 again? ok I’ll try it lol
@dalto - I’m curious why you’re not recommending the Nvidia 470 drivers, especially considering the OP wants to run Steam.
Two reasons.
- The OP is already using the
nouveaudrivers and is only missing the vulkan drivers - The 470xx drivers are a bit painful to get up and running at this point. Especially under plasma wayland. Even under X some cards will require manual X config to provide proper display resolutions.
Given the situation the OP is struggling with I am hesitant to recommend the 470 drivers even though they may yield better performance.
I have tried the 470, admittedly probably not correctly. That’s why we’re here folks!
Just rebooted at normal resolution after Steam was installed. Thanks so much guys.
