Bluetooth headphones won't pair/connect

Have you tried to enable the pairing mode of the headset ?

At least I had to enable it on mine when I was setting them up using bluez (and not blueman as you do).

Yes

I’m not familiar enough with these different bluetooth managers. Blueman was the one that I got to show up. Don’t know how to get specifically bluez to show up so I can directly use it.

Edit: unless you mean the bluetoothctl stuff, which I have been trying to use as well. It basically does the same thing that blueman does.

Blueman is based on gtk and may interfere with bluedevil, which is the graphical bluetooth manager for KDE plasma.

Blueman as well as bluedevil should both depend on the bluez package which is providing the bluetooth.service That being said, my prior phrasing was a bit sloppy and eventually misleading, sorry about that.

Are you using bluetoothctl to show what is happening?

bluetoothctl ----> scan on ------> trust ----> pair ---> connect

This is the way that you are going to see whether it is using the correct device id when it’s connecting and pairing.

I have the same issue, with both Sonys WF and WH headphones, however.
Pairing dialogue shows they are paired for a short while, then fails.

Using bluetoothctl, they fail with a “timeout” at the connect stage.

Some added details:

  • They work on a machine with Kubuntu 24.10, running kernel 6.11.0-9
  • They worked on a previous endeavour install, about a month ago (distro-hopped a bit).
  • Other bluetooth devices connect fine, such as a Logitech mouse and Jabra headset connect fine.

Could it be some Kernel regression that has crept in in recent versions?

Your details of what happens when trying to use bluetoothctl is exactly what it does for me.

All of your other added details match up to exactly my experience too. Tried Manjaro, worked perfectly. Tried pairing a mouse (MX Master 3) and it paired and works fine. I also was using Endeavour a few months ago and I didn’t have any of these issues.

I’ve been running Cinnamon for several months for quite some time and went through the process outlined in ‘Bluetooth’ using Endeavour ‘Welcome’. Both my Sony wireless headphones, and my small pair of smokin ‘buds’ worked perfectly.

I’ve been now using Plasma and KDE for about 2 months now and initially got both headsets working but as of lately nothing is connecting. When I run bluetoothctl here is what I get: [richardc@richard-ms7c91 ~]$ bluetoothctl
[bluetooth]# Agent registered

That’s it. I’ve been trying this evening to see if they wil connect and nothing. . I may have both gtk and KDE blueman and bluez. Still no luck. . . . .

Any Ideas?

Rich;) btw KDE is up to date with all the latest versions. . . .I update the software every time I boot up and run my computer just as habit. . .

Everything now working again this morning. Pairing of devices worked. Maybe one of the files updated this morning did the trick.
