Install the kernel headers.
sudo pacman -S linux-headers
Install the kernel headers.
sudo pacman -S linux-headers
Okay will do. The only problem is when I try and re-install EndeavourOS right after I reboot after everything installs I get a blank screen right after the grubmenu. Therefore I am using a different older OS without updating the kernel. Should I update the Kernel then try all this?
What do you mean a different older OS? Do you have EndeavourOS installed?
I did have it installed, then I updated with sudo pacman -Syu. Then I got the blank screen problem. Then I used my older computer to get the Endeavour ISO and reinstall it on the problem computer. After I did that whenever I install Endeavour I get a blank screen right after the grub menu. I suspect it was because of the kernel. So then on my problem computer I installed a different arch based OS that allows Japanese language which is old. Then I downgraded the kernel and saw that I don’t get the blank screen if I reboot. I’m currently trying to figure out how to not get the blank screen with everything updated so that I can switch back to Endeavour and do the same thing. Does that makes sense?
My older Intel i3 CPU computer does have endeavour and there is no problems with that one. all updated and everything.
No it doesn’t. You can’t compare your older computer to this one. Not the same hardware likely. If you are going to fix the issue on the computer that has the issue then you have to work with that one and figure out what the issue is.
Okay. I’m using my newer computer right now to try and fix the issue. I just mentioned the older one maybe it would pinpoint the problem. BTW I installed linux-headers and can install all the other packages no problem now. Should I do what the link in your first reply said? Change the pacman.conf file?
You installed the headers okay. Then did you install nvidia-installer? Now try to install
nvidia-installer-dkms
I just tried to install with “paru -S nvidia-installer-dkms” and it said error: could not find all required packages: nvidia-installer-dkms (target)
Try just installing sudo pacman -S nvidia-dkms
Okay, that went well. I installed nvidia-dkms.
What happens if you reboot now?
Okay, rebooting right now. Should I upgrade my kernel or keep the downgraded version?
Hey, I tried rebooting the computer and it said ‘’‘Loading Linux linux… Loading initial ramdisk … error: file ‘/boot/initramfs-linux.img’ not found. Press any key to continue…’’’
I pressed enter and nothing happened. (BTW I am now using my older computer to type this).
Are you able to boot it and switch to a TTY and log in as root?
Sorry, I do not know what that means. How do I switch to TTY?
When you boot up and see that loading linux hit ctrl alt f1
Edit: If it works you log in as root and your password.
Okay, I did that and it took me to the system information. I think it’s the BIOS. Should I reinstall Arch linux the older OS?
If you want to try a reinstall that is up to you. It might be helpful for you. What desktop would you be installing?
Edit: Are you using the latest ISO?
The desktop I am installing is Cinnamon. I think I will reinstall because otherwise I cannot use the newer computer.
