BLACK SCREEN since plasma 6.2 -- BUG

since plasma 6.2 and continuing in 6.2.1
BLACK SCREEN

Still have to CTL-ALT # to terminal, CTL-ALT# to open plasma desktop

same issue on a CachyOS partition
Lenovo Legion T5 26ARA8
AMD Ryzen 7 7700
Radeon RX 6600
samsung s32ag55 monitor common factor between both OS situations
(successful upgrade on totally different system)

possibly related to ddcutil, powerdevil and plasma-desktop ??

Working system with Manjaro Stable. Need I back away from the bleeding edge???

At what point are you encountering the black screen?

  1. Grub / systemd-boot
  2. SDDM / login
  3. X11 / Wayland desktop
  4. …etc

I believe I am using Grub, SDDM, not sure about X11 or wayland

System reaches plasma-desktop then reverts to black screen and makes sound

At which of those points are you getting a black screen?

after reaching plasma desktop for a moment

I may have switched from Wayland to X11 (or vice versa) during one reboot after black screen fault began with plasma 6.2

If you’re able to try the other (X11 or Wayland), give it a go.

not sure if I can access that login screen again.

as I have said, CTL-ALT # to terminal, CTL-ALT# to open plasma desktop is a work around

KDE developers have to be aware of the changes they made that might possibly cause this fault ---- all was fine on plasma 6.1, fault appeared first day plasma 6.2 update was released and I updated to it ---- on another computer with all different hardware normal operation.
That this fault happens under EndeavourOS and CachyOS seems to point to the monitor and related software

This is a cutting edge rolling release distro. A degree of troubleshooting from time to time is to be expected.

Can you get to the login screen by running:

loginctl terminate-user $USER

Once black screen appears, my only input option is

CTL-ALT # to terminal, CTL-ALT# to open plasma desktop

Not my first serious bug with EndeavourOS and KDE.

After suffering enough bleeding edge bugs – one starts to want stability back
OR I should get in the habit of waiting months to update

Presently, Manjaro Stable continues to work for me.

Can you do these things? Open a terminal?
So it’s understood, I don’t know what you can see, and what you can and can’t do.

Can access the terminal, possess no troubleshooting knowledge to view logs

Ok, so did you try running this to get to the login screen?

loginctl terminate-user $USER

will try now

         ?

sudo loginctl terminate-user $USER
?

If it’s needing permissions, yes add the sudo.

not yet tried
loginctl terminate-user $USER

do you suspect it will log me into the plasma desktop and if it does, I still have an issue.

this is a matter some BIG BOY Arch and KDE developers should notice as I have posted several times.

Comment #1 from Nate Graham <nate@kde.org> —
Unfortunately there’s no information in this bug report that we can use to
triage the issue. I would recommend asking for help on the Arch Forum first to
make sure it isn’t caused by a botched update or a local configuration issue.
If everything looks good to them over there, we can come back here and try
troubleshooting some things on our side. Thanks.

Arch forum seems NOT to appreciate arch-clone OS users posting in the Arch forum

have been banging my head against this BUG for more days than I wish to continue

this is like a broken piston rod – no roadside repair can help

The expectation is that it will log you OUT of the Plasma session, and hopefully return you to the SDDM login where you can select X11/Wayland.

Only logs me out returning to terminal login prompt

Most stable rolling release quest? Manjaro STABLE ?
time to try immutable distros ?
BSD ?
how long will Linux OS continue after Torvalds retires?
will ARM RISC cpus kill off x86-64

You forgot to mention Mac.

did not forget. Not content with their limited hardware options and HIGH cost

What threshold did you pass to become “Regular” ?

Granted I am in the forum only semi-regular…
