Black screen during boot, stuck cursor + having sounds in the black screen

Hi all,

My 2nd gaming notebook (my wifes) has a issue when the notebook is off for a day (sometimes it takes days). When she boots it up the next day or the day after the screen becomes black. Normally she can ctrl+alt+delete and the notebook would reboot. Since a week she cannot use this combo and she needs to force shut down the notebook. This is the only notebook in this household that had a bit of issues during boot, when i switched to linux back in 2021 this was already a symptom in Pop! OS. But now it is getting worse because she needs to use the power button.

What logs can i provide to check what is going on ? I would appreciate any help.

Video of what is happening: After systemd boot (everything passed green)

I noticed this error but i am not sure if it is related to it.

My kernel parameters are as follow:
nvme_load=YES nowatchdog rw rootflags=subvol=/@ root=UUID=107b9487-5b4d-4ba3-9c7c-7631db2e2ce3 nvidia_drm.modeset=1

Thanks for sharing that link. Will look into it tonight. I made my post because my wife called and i wanted to prepare myself for what to do at home.

Logs added in the OP, hope it helps.

No one has an idea ?

Well a laptop that seems to be at least about 7 years old, judging by the Bios date , could have a failing screen, to test this try to boot from a live ISO and see what happens.

Ideas:

  • update motherboard BIOS firmware?
  • to avoid using the power button, see [Tip] Enable Magic SysRq Key (REISUB)
  • use the LTS kernel
  • use x11 instead of wayland
  • show the output of command nvidia-inst -t

Sadly this is not the case. In 2021 i installed pop os on it and it had the same symptoms. After 2 years i used windows on in to rule that issue out. In windows it does not have that issue at all. I used windows for over 2 years after pop os.

  1. Latest bios
  2. That one i have to try
  3. Same results
  4. Same results

Today the first blackscreen came back after my last post. This time it had no left cursor (like i used to have on this acer notebook) and CTRL + ALT + Delete where working fine again. Yet i still want to try to find out “why” the blackscreens are happening ?
