Best Document Scanner for Home and Office Use?

Hi everyone,

I’m looking for a good document scanner for home and occasional office use. I need to scan things like receipts, forms, invoices, and other important documents, so I’d like something that produces clear scans without being too complicated to use.

I’ve been looking at a few different options, but I’m having trouble deciding which one would be the best choice. I’d prefer something reliable, reasonably fast, and easy to set up.

ScanSnap iX2500 Wireless or USB High-Speed Document Scanner – Black

Epson Workforce ES-50 Compact & Lightweight Mobile Document Scanner

For those who have used document scanners, what would you recommend as the best document scanner right now? Are there any particular models I should consider?

Thanks in advance for any suggestions!

Most standalone scanners should work just out of the box under Linux.
I have two in use one ancient Epson twain USB scanner still working totally fine, but slow and a new Canon one standard flatbed document scanner.
Canon CanoScan LiDE .. has buttons but i do basically never use these.. for all standard scanning i do use simple-scan .. other tools will work the same only omit installing these old monster apps like xsane .. to complex interfaces ..

Agreed, simple-scan is a good reliable scanner and very simple to use.

I have a Brother DCP-9010cdw multi-function printer/scanner and the printer function works out of the box on EOS with nearly zero configuration. The scanner function required installing an appropriate brscan version from the AUR. For software, I tried skanpage, but it had a weird compatibility issue with the scan area of my device. I’ve since switched to simple-scan and it works flawlessly.

One cannot go wrong with either Epson or Canon. Go for either one of them

For a quickscan i use.my phone, but simple scan is for me good enough

If you’re needing OCR, you might also try gimagereader-qt or gImagereader-gtk (depending on your desktop environment). It’s a front-end for Tesseract OCR.

If you need fast ocr use AI chat
