Best AMD Fan Monitor?

I notice my fans on my RX570 spin at bootup but then stop, would like to download a fan monitor for temps/fan speed ect… Would like to keep my fan speeds at 50% all the time, i don’t really game on my pc. Hopefully the power going out and coming back on 3 times last night caused this lol. Thanks!

Edit: Ok fans work on boot up & stay running while in the bios, but when i get to my Plasma desktop they stop.

Install lm_sensors and run sensors-detect as root.
After all available sensors have been detected, you can easily display the values using gadgets like gkrellm, conky or whatever monitor you want to use.
Executing sensors in a terminal, displays the current values.

On my desktop for example:

From what I’ve been reading the fans only spin up when temps reach a certain temperature. Anything i can download to keep my fans at 50% all the time? Thanks

Edit: fanctl 0.4.1-1 in the AUR?

Has anyone tried this?

Anyone else have a Radeon 570 or 580 where the fans spin at boot up and are off when your idle(surfing the web/checking email.) I don’t recall this being the case with prior kernels/drivers. According to the internet this is “normal”

As long as I’m using Linux, the fans spin during boot up and go quiet after the system is running on every machine I use(d) and every kernel version.

Thanks @Bryanpwo I was looking to buy a new video card, but started to see the prices haha I was like :astonished: So i started searching online if others were having this issue. Again thank you.

Keep your money in your pocket, there’s nothing wrong with your machine

I have an Nvidia GTX 1060 and i never see the fan run? I don’t think it even comes on unless the temp gets above 50 degrees. This is on a desktop but my AMD RX 590 always runs. It has lighting that says fan stop on and i see it on occasionally now that you mention it. So it probably turns on and off?

@ricklinux Which RX590 did you get, i’m looking to upgrade at some point. But yea IF I boot up it runs, or if i were to reinstall Endeavouros it will run(Or IF I’m in my bios). Its only after i get to my desktop that it stops. According to all of the searching I’ve done this is normal. But I’m pretty sure this all started with the 5.11 Kernel, but i could be wrong.

I have Gigabyte RX 590 but i don’t think you can even get these cards anymore. Graphics cards right now are difficult to find or the seller is trying to get 5x what they are worth. Not going to over pay. I know what the prices should be.

Edit: This is the one i have.

Thanks!

@ricklinux $550 is high

That shows a used one which is probably all you’ll find anyway. But yes that’s pretty well full price. They weren’t cheap and not it great supply either. The new 5000 cards came out right after.

I installed LTS 5.10.20-1 & my video card fans now stay on lol, no clue what changed between 5.10 - 5.11?

Guess I’ll stay with LTS 5.10.20-1

I’m going to have to look at mine. Sure my Nvidia fans don’t run at all. But my AMD seems to turn on and off.

Edit: Nvidia works fine doesn’t get hot. And seems fine also. I’ve never paid much attention to it till now.

Have you tried to check it with Thermald installed? (Although, you should give Thermald a couple of days to really notice the difference.)

@Christopher67 By the way, if you’re going to install it, just follow the steps in this article to activate it:
https://endeavouros.com/docs/hardware-and-network/powersaving/cpu-frequency-scaling/

I have started to have this issue recently, even when waking from sleep the fans go to 100%, or even just opening something they will max out when they did not before. Before they only went to 100% at boot and even when running games i couldn’t hear the cards fans. They do calm down after like 2 minutes.

To give more info on Corectrl, I use it to overclock and have a custom fan profile on my rx580. Once installed, you have to edit boot parameters to have more control.
