Thanks for the tutorial. I’m looking for a Linux equivalent of Deep Freeze for my EndeavourOS setup. I need a simple solution to automatically restore my system to a clean state after every reboot. I’ve tried Snapper, Fedora Silverblue, NixOS, and vanilla, but they’ve been too complex for my needs. I just want a straightforward way to freeze my system and revert to that state on reboot. Is there a tool that can help me maintain a clean work environment?
What are you actually trying to freeze in this case?
Using something like snapshots will revert everything to prior point in time. That probably isn’t what you want here. That would push you back to an unpatched setup every time. I think Deep Freeze stores configuration items different from the base image so the base image an be updated without the user being able to change settings. It’s purpose is mostly for support-ability.
Not sure if there is a tool per se, but you could customise an ISO, put it on an external HDD/SSD and boot from it. It would clean itself each time you shutdown/reboot.
Another option is using the exact distros you mentioned. That’s what they were made for.
