Just let me know if anythin is unclear or you need some help. PM me and I’ll help you
Would any of you be interested in cooperating in making a bspwm edition?
I mean we obv have to ask the devs frist but there are an i3 option so I thought why not and bspwm otion too. I’ve used it for years now and now a lot about it so it wouldn’t be a problem to set up a nice looking set-up (preferrably using EOS colors ootb) - and also sane keybinding - as close to defaults as possible. And not a lot of programs installed. We focus on terminal programs that are usable and not hard to learn and a browser - the rest users can install themselves.
I know some users have problems setting up mpd + ncmpcpp so that could be nice to include for them - ranger for file manager with ueberzug so they have previews - also include a bar - (polybar would be my choice) - a launcher (rofi or dmenu - I vote for the first) and notifications (dunst)
So if anyone is interested let me know.
bspc is golden
a day later
Srsly - a day later and none of you are interested in making a bspwm edition? I 've already sent a request to the bossman. I can do all the work but I do need a couple of ppl who can tell me if I’m moving away from EOS colors ideas and ideals. It’s easy to start focusing on what you want - but this is not for me this is for Eos
@ramblinwreck do you think you could want to participate in a project like this - we will start from a very minimal EOS installation and from there we will build bspwm with rofi and dunst all inn EOS colors. I for one would love to have you on the project - especially after the enthusiasm you showed yesterday
@anon77235960 I am really busy at the moment, I work for the health service in the UK, I am the flu vaccine co-ordinator for my Hospital trust. Last few days have been manic, working all hours. Coming on here briefly has been my only fun
Would love to help, but not for a couple of weeks…
Also my old unit (I was ward based, until a failed knee op, now work in an office), has a covid outbreak - I originally worked with people with dementia and enhanced needs, I am worried for my friends who still work there
I would be happy to help in anyway that I can, but I don’t have much experience, except the ~16 hours I’ve had BSPWM installed in a VM (it’s running, but no chance to even start with the config). I’m going to be messing around with it more tonight to see what fun I can have. Let me know what you had in mind and what I can do.
Feel free to contact me as well. In case you didn’t notice I have a thing for theming.
Thank you
So @ramblinwreck - @anon53396576 and myself are the one that starts this. If it takes a little time say - appprox 3 weeks or more also @xircon might be available to help. For a small project like this 2-3 guys are more than enough though - but we’ll see how it goes.
First things first - we need to contact Manuel or Joe regarding how we are gonna go forward wih this - is the goal to include it on the iso or should it be a separate spin. Personally I would love to see it on the iso ofc but in the end it doesn’t really matter.
Can @ramblinwreck or @anon53396576 contact Manuel and/or Joe to figure out how we should approach this regarding the release of the spin? THe Bspwm stuff I have undr control - and @anon53396576 got the themeing part. @ramblinwreck will be our voice of reason and as he’s new to bspwm I wantto include him as much as possible so he can learn and see how easy and cool this wm actually is. That’s my thoughts anyway - but this is a democracy we all have equal say here - so please speak your minds…
Now should we start a new thread for this project - that would be my suggestion
don’t worry about lack of experinece - I’ve helped bspwm users in less than 4 hours on telegram - I’ll show you and you will learn - bspwm is all very intuitive and not compliated at all - might feel so when you’re new to it but as soon as someone introduce you to bspc and show you how things are done you will also think it’s faaaaar from hard. As long as you’re interested in learning I think you’ll fit perfect in this project. Glad to have you on board
@anon53396576 Thanks for offering to help with this - someone who knows theming is always valuable to something like this. You have any experinece with Bspwm from before? It doesn’t really matter tho but would be a bonus if you had ofc.
Do any of you two feel like volunteering to contact Manuel and/or Joe so we get some guidelines on how to move forward. I’m pretty confident we should be done by the next release
I’m happy to reach out to whoever is needed, but @anon53396576 might have more regular contact with the needed people. Let me know if not though, I can get the ball rolling at least.
I’m very willing to learn. Calling me the voice of reason might be a long shot, but I can be the voice of the new user at least
They are the same - I’ve used this for so long so I have my way of doing things - that’s why it’s niceto have someone on board that sees with fresher eyes
@Bryanpwo was very positive to this in his msg to me. But like he said we should contact Manuel or Joe so that’s our next task. Once that is done we can start
add in @anon53396576 in that post so also he sees it.
You have already done it
