Audio not working after fresh install

Hello everyone!
Here I am again, new laptop e new fresh install of my fav distro.
Everything went super smoothly, even installing linux in a separate sdd to double boot with windows and having both the two OS encrypted - Huge kudos to Calamares! -.
Everything, but the audio!
I can’t make it work.

I have a new XPS 17 laptop, I checked around and I saw that the problem is usually related to sof-firmware (I’ve installed it), but that didn’t solve the problem. I restarted after every trial I’ve tried.

Try this first by adding the following to the default grub command line and then update grub. So edit the default grub command line:

/etc/default/grub

add

snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0

Update grub

sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg

reboot

If this doesn’t work we’ll try something else.

Edit: If the above doesn’t work try this instead and do the same to update grub after removing what you added above.

snd_intel_dspcfg.dsp_driver=1

I tried both:

first I added to GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT the parameter snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0, updated grub and restarted → no audio
second I removed snd_hda_intel.dmic_detect=0, added snd_intel_dspcfg.dsp_driver=1, updated grub and restarted → no audio

Here it is: the output devices page shows the music going when I have you-tube playing, but the configuration has no profiles:

If I click on profile I see a lot of options, but they are all unavailable.

Okay so it has a dummy output.

Sooooo, after your tip, I checked around for dummy output and I find this post related to an older kernel version. It still made the job anyway!

I did add options snd-hda-intel model=auto at the end of /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf (in my case alsa-base.conf was not existing, so I actually created it.

Glad you got it working. I tried that one on another system but it didn’t work on it. It doesn’t show any output device.
