My audio is really cooked and i dont know whats happened or what to do to fix it…
sometimes audio devices will just flat out not work, they’ll be detected but no sound will come out of them
sometimes audio devices will only work after selecting a different option and then going back
three is like two, but instead of programs just not having sound until i select a different option, websites (and the spotify flatpak) wont play anything entirely until i switch audio devices to something else and back! attached is a screenshot of this behaviour on youtube - it’ll buffer forever and even come up with this error message until i switch audio devices where the video springs to life again?
~~ THIS ONE (4) IS THE MOST ANNOYING FOR MY USECASES ~~
the use of this obs plugin for program audio capture via pipewire no longer detects programs, for example spotify can be open and playing audio but wont appear in the list. However microphone input with pipewire works. However desktop capture with pipewire doesnt work?
sometimes audio devices are insanely quiet, to the point where i need to be in a completely silent room to even make it out, almost like its permanently stuck on 1%
if i keep audio going, like constantly playing a song on spotify where i would otherwise be in silence - even if that just means having spotify playing whilst browsing youtube - all of these issues go away? but as soon as i pause spotify (or any other audio) and leave it from anywhere from 5 seconds to 20 seconds to even a couple minutes, playing audio again brings all of these problems back
once the audio volume selector in the system tray just completely froze and even grayed out like a program does when its not responding
at the same time this happened, the settings app was completely blank under the sound section! a restart fixed this, but i still wanted to point it out
sometimes audio devices get set to 40% randomly
for the life of me i cant figure out a science to these problems, all of these only happen sometimes, and theyve only happened today! yesterday none of this happened. whats even weirder is how all i did today for these issues to start is turn my pc on. nothing else, literally nothing else! i dont know what could have caused this D:
Do you have similar issues/have you tried an X11 session? When did you first notice the issue? Also to help others post some logs/system information. (look to the top left of the forum page help)
I’m gonna be so real with you I have no idea how to start an X11 session, i just thought i was permanently on Wayland. Typing “startx” into a console on ctrl+shift+f3 gives me not alot to work with, im very noobie when it comes to any of that kind of stuff.
The issues started when i turned my pc on at like 5pm today, and they were not happening before that - to my knowledge the computer didnt do any updates and these issues just started randomly.
I couldnt find any logs that related to these issues either, i checked before making this thread.
This here seems quite odd, if they were working before and are no longer with no system changes it could be a hardware fault (onlly making a guess here)
To start KDE in X11 you log out and I think from memory the option to switch is on the bottom left (it will say wayland and if you click it should give the option to change to x11)
The issues seem to stay on X11. I really hope it isnt a hardware issue and i dont think it is because all of the audio devices work - and when they are working they stay working, its only when the system is muted (even for a moment, pausing and unpausing a youtube video for example) that it breaks again. But it could be… i just really hope not
I honestly dont know how much this would help, but sure thing!
Hardware Info can be found here https://0x0.st/XtW6.txt
The X session logs can be found here https://0x0.st/XtWd.txt
Using the log tool, every single log it would let me select can be found here https://0x0.st/XtW0.txt
Any other logs needed just let me know (:
More info! That i somehow only just noticed, the “sometimes audio devices get set to 40% randomly” doesnt seem to be random at all! It happens every time theres an issue and my audio goes mute again. Sliding the audio to 100% does nothing, i still need to select a different device before selecting the same one again - and sometimes that doesnt work and i need to restart my computer. But i hope this information is useful to someone!
This has been solved by a lovely person on the discord, what solved it was uninstalled pulseaudio and installing pipewire-pulse, then restarting my computer twice?? i dont know, but i wont complain
