Audio fine at install, choppy-buggy after pacman -Syu

Hopefully I’m posting in the right place. I’m a long time linux user but an arch noob. After a long relationship with another distro, I’ve decided to switch to EOS, which I really like. I ran a live instance of EOS where audio from youtube was fine. So I installed EOS KDE. Immediately after instalation audio from youtube was still fine. However, after running # pacman -Syu - audio from youtube or rumble at first seems fine, but becomes choppy ie. continually freezing momentarily when Firefox is minimized and when I navigate to another tab (less severe). Works fine from live USB, works fine at install, broken after sudo pacman -Syu

I’ve looked around forums, spoke to AI, tried a number of things but to no avail. It’s a little upsetting because I’m already becoming attached to EOS.

Please help, :grimacing:

Update: Problem is only when using HDMI audio output (tv speakers). I am unable to replicate the problem when using the optical out on my motherboard through an amplifier.

Point of interest: When using the HDMI output with Pavucontrol open on the desktop, youtube playing in Firefox and FF minimized, audio works fine. As soon as I close or minimize Pavucontrol the problem returns. Frustrating and peculiar.

In order to diagnose the issue, some details would be really helpful. Please check how to include systemlogs in your post. The mentioned inxi command should be enough at first, as it would contain the infos about your hardware, thus it should be feasible to narrow it down.
