Wonderful news! We have a small podcast in hiatus, which we were planning to revive since, well, before I switched to EndeavourOS :smiley: I really am looking forward to having a real Linux-only workflow, which my old toolchain (open source project Ultraschall, based on a fixed version of closed-source DAW Reaper, with no real Linux support) was not supporting. Will be waiting for a flatpak or when it will hit extra repos instead of the 3.x version…

Nice find. The redesign is a pretty big step, and I’m curious to see how it feels in longer editing sessions, not just screenshots. For anyone trying it early, I’d still suggest keeping Audacity 3 around if you have ongoing projects, just in case plugins, project files, or workflows behave differently.

If it proves stable, this could be a very nice option for podcast and general audio work on Linux. The AUR/AppImage route is handy for testing while waiting for it to land in the usual repos or Flatpak.

Old version is still in ‘extra’ repo. I downloaded the ‘bin’ file which is version 4.

Yeah, I hope 4 makes it to the Extra repo. The audacity4-bin version is the one I linked to in the original post.

Wow, those are some comprehensive quality-of-life improvements :astonished_face:

A lot of them were the sorts of features I can take for granted in professional software.

Anyone know if the OpenVino models plugin will have better integration with Audacity 4?

Not keen on Snaps and it’s only the openvino stuff that stops me using the repo version, I know it ain’t just down to the Audacity team when it comes to openvino integration, just wondering if anyone knows whether there’s been some collaboration there on making it a bit less unwieldy with the new Audacity coming out

I’m new to Endeavour btw, installed it in a VM yesterday to see if I like it enough to be a replacement for opensuse which I’ve used for over 20 years, just don’t like the way it’s gone with the new Leap 16 version, so time for a change on what I use on my main machine as my ‘daily driver’ OS

Liking the look and feel of it and I’m familiar enough with Arch-based systems there’s no real learning curve to deal with so I’m gonna replace the opensuse installation with Endeavour tomorrow
